Step 1:  Stop BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer and the Windows Update Services.

• net stop wuauserv
• And then net stop cryptSvc
• Now net stop bits
• net stop msiserver

Step 2: Rename SoftwareDistribution folder.

1. Press Windows key + X key on the keyboard.
2. Click on Command Prompt (Admin).
3. Type net stop wuauserv and press Enter.
4. And then Type rename c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution softwaredistribution.old and press enter
5. Again type net start wuauserv and press Enter.
6. Finally, type exit and press Enter

Step 3: Start BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer and the Windows Update Services                     

1. Type the following commands in the Command Prompt.
2. Press the ENTER key each command.

• net start wuauserv
•  and then net start cryptSvc
• now type net start bits
• net start msiserver

1. Type Exit in the Command Prompt to close
2. Restart the computer.

Solution 3 – Make sure that Windows Update service is running

1. Go to Search box and search for control panel. Open Control Panel                                                                                                                                                                                    
2. And then go to Administrative Tools.                                                                                                                                                                        
3. Find and run Services.                                                                                                                                                                                   
4. When Services window opens find Windows Update service and double click it to open its Properties.                                                
5. In Windows Update Properties, find Startup Type and from the drop down choose Automatic. Also check the Service status, and if the status isn’t set to Running, click the Start button in that section to start it.
6. Click OK to save your settings and restart your computer.
